After graduation I took on a job as an accountant at a small company and after two months I realized that dignified hard work was not acceptable. I then enrolled in law school and was called to the bar in 1957. In 1953 I joined the 29th Field Regiment (SP), a reserve regiment, and after what could be called a somewhat less than distinguished military career I retired to the Supplementary Reserve in 1962 with the exalted rank of captain. A rank, I might add, which far exceeded any rank contemplated for me by any of my Squadron Commanders or other military assessors.

During this aspect of my Armed Forces career I commanded a troop of artillery and upon my retirement I was the commanding officer of the York Volunteers (2nd Battalion) Wet Canteen Stretcher Bearers.

I was married in 1957 to Anne who came to our Graduation Ball and we had five children, Brian, Wendy, Ian, Michael and Mary. Fortunately, my legal career far surpassed my military achievements and I continue this endeavour in practice with my son Ian.

Born in Toronto and Educated at the University of Toronto Schools (UTS) and the Royal Military College.

Chairman, President and CEO of Signum Communications Inc. and McConnell Advertising for more than fifteen years. Prior to that held senior operational posts at Foster Advertising Limited. Subsequently was principal shareholder, President and CEO of Pramcom Communications Inc., a company specializing in public relations. During this period, advised Allied-Lyons PLC in their successful takeover of Hiram Walker-Goodman & Worts, and directed communications for Environment Canada's World Conference on the Changing Atmosphere.

Sold Pramcom in 1989, and became Vice-President, Director of Corporate Affairs of Citibank Canada, and three years later became President of the Zoological Society of Metropolitan Toronto. Served on the following corporate boards: Signum Communications Inc.; McConnell Advertising Limited; The Film House Group Inc.; Roberts Ketchum International Ltd.; Roberts/Fenton/McConnell Limited; Cockfield Brown Inc.; Quantum Communications Limited; CJRT-FM (Public Service Radio Station); Dunkerron Investments Inc.; Torontario Sales & Marketing Inc.; and Perco Sales Limited, Chairman: MacPhee Jesson Advertising And Public Relations; Advertising and Review Board for Ontario; Commissionaires (Great Lakes) Co-chair Reserves 2000. Other directorships included: Institute of Canadian Advertising (ICA) - Vice-Chairman; American Marketing Association; Canadian Advertising Advisory Board; Canadian Broadcast Executives Society; Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC) - Vice Chairman; European Advertising and Marketing Group; and the Young Men's Advertising and Sales Club Director.

Past-Chairman of the York Finch General Hospital, Honourary Lieutenant Colonel of the Governor General's Horse Guards Chairman and Governor of the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires, and a former Director of Big Brothers of Toronto, Canadian Liver Foundation (Past Chairman), Council of Drug Abuse, Empire Club of Canada (First Vice-President), University of Toronto Schools Alumni Association (Past President).

With wife Wanda we live on a farm north of Toronto. Son Geoffrey resides with his wife and daughter in New York City while daughter Elizabeth is in Calgary with her husband and three children.
