1950-54 MCGill. Electrical Engineering
1954-57. Howard Smith Paper Mills in Tech Services in Toronto and Montreal. 1957-1992 Tech Services Engineer, Hercules Powder of Montreal. (I grew up in Cornwall, so pulp smell is in my blood.) I moved around Hercules for the next 35 years raising three children and with my wife, living in Montreal, Wilmington (thrice) Holyoke, Mobile and Atlanta. Remained in the chemicals business, ending as Group V/P WW Paper Chemicals Group when I retired in 1992. During that time we traveled worldwide and did many fun things along the way. Led industry executives to China, Indonesia , Thailand, etc.. And we still go there every chance we get. Hope to go back to live in Quilin China for six months if I can retire again.

I serve as Chairman of the Paper Industry Association, on several pulp and paper school foundation boards, but most important of all made a lot of friends along the way. In 1982 Marion died of cancer and I married Jeanette in 1986. We live in the Baltimore-Philadelphia corridor with her two daughters and my three children. There are five grandchildren, including twins.

From 1992 to 1998 I served as V/P of the Institute of Paper Science and Technology in Atlanta. The position involves round the world trips. This job started as a two week consultancy and three presidents later am enjoying it immensely. Jeanette and I spend our time between Atlanta and Hilton Head. In my spare time I serve on several boards and started a consulting firm. Hobbies are wood working lots of walnut waiting in the basement plus Sunbean Alpines to be restored...perhaps after Quilin! Jeanette manages our rental condos. Losing weight is a major hobby leading to a full time job. We love to travel which explains the sorry state of the other hobbies.

3095 Tetreault, Jean
Along the Chambly canal sits the town of Chambly, Qu6bec, where I was born in 1930. This is some 50 km (used to be 30 miles) south of Montr6al (used to be the biggest city in Canada). I left Chambly at the age of 14 (the town never recovered from that departure) to move to Montreal to further my education; my parents knew I was destined to great things. I completed my high school education at St-Stanislas in 1949, having been elected commandant of the cadet corps and president of the school. (I was irresistible and on my way to becoming a star). Having conned the department of defense examiners, I was accepted at RMC; it must have been my curly hair and my charisma that duped them!

I hold certain records at R.M.C.:

  1. I was the only cadet to be charged on his first day at the college;
  2. As far as I know, I was the only cadet to be charged for standing on the padre's car so I could talk to my girlfriend at Hotel-Dieu Hospital.
Having graduated as squadron adjutant (#l), I completed my B. Eng. at McGill in 1954, hoping the world was ready for me. After a few years as structural engineer at Quebec Hydro (the corporation that says an ice storm is no problem), I went to work for a land surveyor, becoming a partner in 1957. Started my own land surveying firm in 1954 and an engineering firm in 1962 then a construction company in 1986.

I retired from the mad world in 1997. Wishing to escape the pursuit of many females, I succumbed to the charms of my Kingston nurse and we were married on August 13th, 1955. That union produced 5 children: 3 boys and 2 girls. My wife's name is Barbara Ann Plant and her brother is R.M.C.'s rector, Dr. John Plant.

Here are a few of my minor accomplishments:

  1. Founded a local Richelieu club
  2. Vice-president of Richelieu International
  3. Co-founder of the "South Shore Business" club
  4. Co-founder of Montreal Centraide (United Way)
  5. President of the Montreal Chamber of Commerce (was president during the 1976 Olympics and I attended the Munich Olympics to familiarize myself with the organization (1972)
1 live in the town of Candiac, on the south-shore of Montreal, with my wife of 43 years and we have 10 grand-children. N.B.: Best souvenir of R.M.C.: Fatty McColl, Barry Hercus and I having a snack of peanut butter and jam sandwiches at night hoping to chase away the smell of strong coffee. Also hiding people's liquor in my fireplace (please don't tell anyone)
