Clark, John Nanton (Tony) Received a B Sc. (Mech Eng) from Queen's University in 1954. Went to work for Pratt & Whitney Canada Inc (PWC) as a junior Engineer working on aircraft reciprocating radial engines. One year later I was selected to move into gas turbine engines..a brand new venture at PWC. Became the Sales Engineer on the Pratt & Whitney J75 engines that powered the Avro Arrow.Subsequent moves included Sales Manager, Proprietary and Agency Products in 1971, Director of Marketing Programs in 1979 and Vice President, Marketing Administration and Support in 1981. Retired in 1991 and moved to Kingston. During my career I was a long term member of the Helicopter Association International and latterly sat on their Board as an advisor for power. I was a founding member of the Associate Member Group of the Regional Airline Association in the USA and a founding member of the General Aviation Market Expansion Plan In conjunction with the National Air Transportation Association also in the US. Married Margaret Anne Wartman from Kingston. We have two daughters. Victoria Jean married Kirby Ruthven and they have a daughter Olivia who is now six.. Our second daughter is Nancy Elizabeth. All live here in Kingston. Presently hold the unofficial chair of the 1996 Class of 1953 Reunion and am chair of the Property Committee at Sydenham United Church.
Cressey Norman E (Norm) Moved to Vancouver in 1965 as Chief Construction Engineer for Dawson Housing, (Dawson Developments Ltd.). In 1968 the company changed its name to Daon developments Ltd. and became Vice President of Operations. In 1975 left Daon and started Cressey Development Corporation. The company has developed real estate in B. C. and Alberta. The company has offices in Victoria, Calgary and Vancouver. In 1965 I married Joan Bogart form Prongua Saskatchewan. We had two daughters and one son. All three are married and have two children each. (Editor's note: Norm, some of the nicest people we know come from Saskatchewan!)
Cumming, AR (Allen) Following one year at the RCN Electrical School at Halifax, Nova Scotia sailed on the HMCS Ontario, as an electrical officer with a rank of Lieutenant for two years. The ship, was to travel the world and show the Canadian flag by entertaining dignitaries. Ports included Hawaii, Japan, Mexico, Panama Canal, Barbados, Antigua and Puerto Rico. In Puerto Rico, he met his future wife, Maria M. Lloveras who was one of the dignitaries to visit the ship. In September 1957, he left the Royal Canadian Navy and entered the University of California at Berkeley for post-graduate studies. He received his Master of Science in Electrical Engineering. During this time, he and Maria Lloveras were married. He joined and worked at the General Electric Company at Utica, N.Y, and Lynchburg, Virginia. Designed included VHF and UBT transistorized transmitters and receivers. During this time, his son Don was born. In 1962, he joined Sperry Microwave Electronics Company in Clearwater, Florida and worked with this company for four years where he designed microwave and electronic circuits including transistor high frequency transmitters, low noise frequency analyzers and various electronic circuits for space projects. Here two daughters were born: Isabel and Maria. In 1967, he joined Westinghouse Electric Corporation (WEC) in Pompano Beach, Florida where he designed special electronic circuits for various projects including the Tank Night Sight and proximity fuzes. In 1971, he was transferred to ATC in Hunt Valley, Maryland and worked initially on designing test equipment to support the F-16's AN/APG-66 and AN/APG-68 radars. This test equipment included the F-16 Automatic Transmitter Test Set, the BF/Compass Test set and the VHF/UHF test set. Next he worked to establish the criteria and requirements and to survey various countries Air Forces around the world to establish electronic depots to support the countries' aircraft avionics systems and other military systems. These countries included Greece, Turkey, South Korea, Egypt, Germany, England, Sweden, Taiwan, Singapore, Iran, Australia, Japan and Venezuela. These projects were very interesting and meant working directly with the customers and other avionics suppliers to select, to design and to provide the best method of support for each system. In 1994, he retired from WEC and is currently living in Towson, Maryland. His son, daughter-in-law and two children live in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Allen and his wife, Maria, visit them from January to April of each year. His daughter, Isabel, his son-in-law and two children live nearby in Towson, Maryland and his daughter, Maria, also lives nearby in Towson, Maryland.
Dillistone Edward Grant (Dilly) Joined #82 Brandon Air Cadet Squadron with COs F/L Alex Venables, (high school teacher) I never heard of Royal Roads until F/L Venables suggested I apply to attend the college complete with $630 scholarship. I graduated from R.M.C. in Civil Engineering in 1953, was selected for RCAF pilot training, spent three summers flying Harvards and one summer in the right hand seat of DC-3's at McDonald. That was the end of my flying career. On borrowed money I did civil engineering at the U. of Manitoba in 1955, at the same time as Ed Czaja (1950 entry) was completing his mechanical degree down the hall. I spent the next 15 years working for CNR in Ontario and Manitoba. The highlight for me was three years as part of the engineering team building the new Toronto Hump Yard in the early 60's. I became Assistant City Engineer for the City of Brandon in 1970, continued in municipal engineering at Campbell River B.C. in 1978, then as City Engineer in Whitehorse from 1985 until my retirement in 1989. Music has always been a big part of my life. I have had small parts in over a dozen stage musicals, and am a 45 year member of the S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A. (look it up). I married Audrey in 1959. We were blessed with three children, and subsequently with seven-and-a- half grandchildren.( Ed note: This needs explanation!) We retired to Campbell River, where I sing in three groups, spend hours on the Internet adding to my large collection of songs, and vent my nasty sarcastic wit in a regular weekly column for the local community newspaper.
Dzioba, Lawrence Alexander The Royal Navy's Staff Course at Greenwich and the USN's War College at Newport gave superb coverage to subjects so important at one time: paragraph indentation and Trireme tactics in the nuclear age. Neither course included, "Unblocking Sewer Drains", a subject that could easily have been blended into either without disturbing the purity of content. My eight sea-going appointments, four of which were in Command, saw the Navy live up to its promise in 1951 that I would see the world. The Navy conveniently didn't mention that 75% of the world's surface is covered by water, hence, the briny deep was 75% of what I saw. Three appointments in England, two in the United States and the eight at sea only left time to fit in an appointment as Base Commander in Esquimalt before Jo and I retired to our home in Oak Bay. With no regrets, the only time we managed to fit in for Ottawa was that spent at the airport.
Ernst, VG (Gary) Family: Daughter: Alexis Louise. degree in chemistry from Reading. No children, currently working in Hong Kong. Son: Richard Garth, degree in biology and economics from University of Guelph. He is married with two children. Currently working for Sscotia Bank in Toronto. Post Naval Career: Retired from RCN (rank of Commander) in December 1981. Joined St. Lawrence College, Cornwall, in 1982 as teaching master in the marine engineering (diploma) programme. Retired from college in 1991 just in time (fortunately) to avoid having my "rank" changed to "professor".
Current Interests:Travel, tennis, swimming ( 1 gold, 1 silver medals since 1990 at the Ontario senior games); playing trumpet in adult band and a modest amount of volunteer work in Cornwall.
