ROYAL ROADS & ROYAL MILITARY COLLEGE CLASS OF 1949-1953

Class News

This page is intended as a focal point for any news item that a class member would like to share with the class. Examples could include humorous anecdotes or little known escapades from the past. These are just some of the things it would be fun to see here. Other newsworthy items could include comrades or partners SOS and major illnesses. A new feature offered on this page is interesting web sites. Together with all the good stuff we keep asking you for, please add web sites to your list. If you know of one that would be of interest to the class, please send it to the webmaster at the bottom of the homepage.
Classmates are also urged to email the webmaster if their email addresses change. Please include any addresses not on the list. All classmates will be notified whenever the webpage is updated or when ever there are signifigant changes to the email list. We have a good response so far and members who haven't updated their addresses are encouraged to do so.

April 13, 2009 note: We have one more super picture posted of our 2008 re-union. Other news: There are lots of reports of classmates receiving new hips and knees. All recipients are doing well.

Three Generations of Stewarts

In September 2006, O/C Alexander Stewart entered RMC, the third Stewart generation to enter the College. He follows his father 11722 Capt(N)Kenneth and his grandfather MGen(Ret'd) John Stewart. His uncles 12342 Allen (Dean of Engineering at RMC) and 13694 Capt(Ret'd) Gregory Stewart are also RMC graduates. The family is shown on the class-photos page. A Fabulous Photograph

Our fabulous class of 49-53 had a class picture taken in 1993. It was a super re-union (your webmaster just had a halo installed) and we had great time that weekend. Some of you may not have the picture, or it may be in an album somewhere.

ROYAL ROADS CLASS 49-51 NEWS

A number of Cadets who graduated from Royal Roads completed their academic training in the UK as part of their Navy programme. Consequently some of this group never had an opportunity to see their classmates much in the intervening years. Sensing that the time was ripe, a number of West Coast residents considered a "mini re-union for the Class of 49-51".

As a result a very successful re-union was held in Victoria April 25 to 27, 2002. Some 35 class members attended and with ladies the total was 55 present and accounted for. The attendance reflected a very high percentage of class members on strength today.

Activities included a meet and greet at the Union club where most attendees stayed. The highlight of the weekend was a dinner in the Castle dining room. A sumptous dinner was held the following day at an excellent Chinese restaurant. The weekend afforded an excellent opportunity to trade stories with comrades last seen long ago, bit never forgotten. A "lost"classmate attended, Keith Vinden who we hadn't seen since 1950. Then there was Joe Sosnkowski who was out of our sights since 1951. All in all there was much good comeraderie to be experienced and the re-union was considered by all to have been a most worthwhile event.

A fallout of this event involves a CD. Class members have pictures which other classmembers may have never seen. A collection of these photos were scanned and a CD produced for members who ordered them. This provided a simple, enduring method of capturing those golden years and showing them to your granchildren. Twenty seven CD's were produced for a cost $5.00 each; a very inexpensive way to rekindle old memories! All ex-cadet classes should give consideration to this for their own classes.
